DOWNTOWN ECOMOMIC DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR

The City of Nampa is seeking a Downtown Economic Development Coordinator to support the economic development of downtown. This role involves coordinating the Business Improvement District and the Downtown Nampa Association, implementing strategies for business expansion, and fostering relationships with downtown organizations and businesses.

Government Relations

Responsibilities

Prepare for DNA Board of Director meetings by sending out agendas, minutes, and treasurer reports
Provides support the DNA bookkeeper to prepare monthly financials and file annual taxes
Work with the Idaho Department of Commerce and other designated cities on the implementing the Main Street program and becoming accredited Main Street city
Prepare necessary reports to Department of Commerce and the National Main Street Center
Oversee attainment, measurement and communication of annual goals and objectives
Develop and maintain relationships with downtown business owners, with the ability to anticipate future needs and plans
Manage and complete the quarterly billings of the Business Improvement District
Provide support to the Downtown Events Manager for downtown events management and day of tasks for community-wide focused events such as Third Thursdays, Christmas tree lighting, and Downtown Trick or Treat and all DNA sponsored events
Work with the DNA, and Event Coordinator to develop an annual events calendar in conjunction with City of Nampa
Implement strategies for business expansion and redevelopment of downtown
Support the coordination and implementation of the Downtown Implementation Plan
Work with property owners to enhance the physical quality of retail and commercial space
Coordinate regular efforts with volunteers to provide cleaning of streets, sidewalks, and public spaces in downtown
Support seasonal décor installation and takedown with volunteers and City staff. This includes implementation of flower baskets, pole banners, Christmas lighting, etc
Develop in coordination with the board of directors an operations budget for the DNA and the DNCA
Develop a yearly work plan in coordination with the board of directors
Complete an annual report and presentation for the DNA for the annual meeting
Update and maintain DNA bylaws
Write, edit, and publish informational brochures, information packets, newsletter and flyers or will recruit and manage volunteers or interns to fulfill these duties
Keep immediate supervisor and designated others accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems
Respond to citizens' questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner
Communicate and coordinate regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities
Is punctual and timely in meeting performance requirements, including attendance standards and work deadlines
Communicate information and state concerns in a clear and professional manner
Respect the opinions of others and demonstrate a reasonable relationship with employees, supervisors, and others
Accept and perform changes in work assignments and/or how work is performed promptly and effectively by self and others

Required

Bachelor's degree, from an accredited college or university, in Public Administration, Business or Business Management, or a closely related field, or a minimum of five years related professional experience
Experience working with a Board of Directors
Knowledge of the urban planning and real estate development process, including terminology, laws, practices, principles, and regulations
Knowledge of the principles of economic development finance
Excellent interpersonal and public relations skills
Capacity to work effectively with public officials, business partners, staff, and the general public
Ability to understand and manage high-profile, sensitive, or controversial political situations with excellent problem-solving and negotiation skills
Ability to adhere to the City's core values: integrity, teamwork, and excellence
Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment within general policy guidelines
Demonstrated track record of accomplishment in economic development with an emphasis on building community
Ability to have productive collaboration with the business community
Excellent team player
Knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Office, Internet applications, and GIS
Ability to manage day-to-day operations
Strong written and oral communication skills, including the editing, oversight or preparation of technical reports, and the presentation of information to government entities and various committees
