Responsibilities
Develop, maintain, and apply a diverse set of electrical engineering capabilities to provide innovative solutions for LANL's nuclear, accelerator, and non-nuclear facilities
Contribute to the implementation of the Conduct of Engineering (COE) program, ensuring systems, structures, and components are properly modified and installed across our 38-square-mile campus
Support the Laboratory's vital scientific and national security mission by leveraging your electrical engineering expertise
Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to design, analyze, and troubleshoot electrical systems for nuclear facilities
Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, security, and quality standards
Learn from experienced electrical engineers and their in-depth knowledge of various construction methods and electrical systems
Learn how to be an effective and contributing member of a design team
Learn and gain expertise in state-of-the-art electrical design software
Learn how to navigate and implement prevailing industry codes and standards

Gain expertise in the development of design deliverables including drawings, specifications, test and inspection plans (TIPs), statements of special inspections (SSIs), and calculations

Facilitate technical growth of the electrical design team
Qualification
Required
Ability to prepare calculations, apply engineering methods, and apply technology aided engineering tools to facility and operations-based engineering challenges
Ability to support timely and collaborative construction execution. This includes timely review of submittals, requests for information (RFIs), design changes, non-conformance issues, validation of commissioning documentation and produce accurate as-built documents
Basic knowledge of engineering principles, codes, and standards (NEC, NFPA, IEEE, etc.)
Working experience in power system engineering, including fault current analysis, voltage drop calculations, protection coordination studies, incident energy studies and equipment sizing
Demonstrated design experience in commercial and/or government sectors
Demonstrated experience in the development of engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, test and inspection plans (TIPs), and statements of special inspection (SSIs)
Demonstrated experience in the scoping of complex projects to produce an estimate of engineering costs for both design and construction activities
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and 2 years of practical work experience necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above for Electrical Engineer 1
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and a minimum of 3 years of practical work experience necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above for Electrical Engineer 2
Current registration as a Engineer in Training (EIT) is highly desirable for Electrical Engineer 1
Current registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) is highly desirable for Electrical Engineer 2
Preferred
Design experience in nuclear, accelerator or industrial facility operations
Experienced in producing designs utilizing AutoCAD and/or Revit tools and work processes
Knowledge of DOE, LANL Engineering Standards, and Conduct of Engineering principles and procedures
