Responsibilities
Lead mechanical design efforts for advanced sensing hardware, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams including optics, structures, materials, and software
Create detailed 3D CAD models, drawings, and documentation adhering to GD&T (ASME Y14.5) standards to translate concepts into manufacturable designs
Perform failure analysis, mechanical simulations (FEA, CFD), and direct validation tests to ensure system reliability in harsh environmental conditions such as temperature extremes, humidity, and outdoor exposure
Drive strategic investments in tooling, manufacturing processes, and materials to solve present and future engineering challenges
Manage end-to-end documentation throughout the product lifecycle, including design requirements, test results, and validation reports
Communicate technical insights, project progress, and design decisions effectively to leadership and stakeholders
Qualification
Required
A mechanical engineering expert with deep knowledge of manufacturing techniques (machining, sheet metal, injection molding, welding, casting, composites, additive manufacturing)
Experienced in engineering materials relevant to outdoor sensing systems, including metals, polymers, composites, adhesives, and ceramics
Proficient in CAD modeling, mechanical design, and GD&T to deliver high-quality, detailed designs
Skilled in mechanical analysis using FEA, CFD, or similar tools to predict performance and guide design choices
Well-versed in opto-mechanics and able to integrate mechanical precision with optical system requirements
A strong communicator who proactively provides updates, generates reports, and presents findings to technical and non-technical audiences
Experienced in collaborating across multiple teams to deliver complex hardware systems
Bachelor's degree
