Payroll & Benefits Specialist
Markey's is a 100% employee-owned company and leading provider of creative audio-visual services, seeking an experienced Payroll & Benefits Specialist to join their team. This role is responsible for the administration of employee benefit and retirement programs, managing payroll functions, and providing support for employee inquiries related to payroll and benefits.
Responsibilities
Administer health, welfare and retirement plans, including enrollments and terminations
Coordinate benefit education for eligible new hires, manage annual open enrollment process, and ensure accurate record keeping and proper premium deductions
Coordinate medical leave requests, disability claims, and worker’s compensation injury claims, ensuring completion of appropriate forms and monitoring status
Process 401(k) salary deferral changes and loans, and distribution of required notices
Assist with benefits-related reporting, audits, and compliance testing
Serve as a liaison with various insurance carriers and foster effective relationships with client representatives
Manage Driver Qualification files, tracking expirations of DOT physicals, reviewing motor vehicle records, and ensuring compliance with training and documentation requirements
Ensure plans are administered in accordance with federal and state regulations and plan provisions are followed
Oversee bi-weekly multi-state payroll processing, including processing of benefit time, review of timecards with reconciliation to scheduling software, and handling timecard exceptions
Verify payroll changes processed by HR, including employee status changes, wage changes, benefit deductions, tax withholdings, garnishments, and address changes
Ensure accurate and timely payroll submissions bi-weekly, set up new cycle in payroll software, and download payroll reports
Issue replacement checks as needed, and handle processing of discretionary bonuses
Serve as a resource for employee payroll and benefit-related inquiries, providing solutions and support as appropriate, and complete other projects as needed for the Accounting and HR departments
Qualification
Required
Minimum 2 years of experience in Human Resources or Accounting; prior experience with benefit administration and/or payroll required
Must possess a high level of attention to detail, excellent time management skills, and ability to multi-task and prioritize work responsibilities
Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office software – Excel, Word, PowerPoint
Ability to work in a collaborative team environment, as well as independently, demonstrating good customer service skills, resourcefulness, and commitment to respecting and maintaining the confidentiality and privacy of employee information
Ability to maintain a positive and professional appearance and attitude at all times

Preferred
Degree in Human Resources, Accounting or related field preferred
HRCI or SHRM designation preferred but not required
Knowledge of HR and Payroll-related laws and regulations preferred
Previous experience with HR/Payroll software (such as ADP) preferred
