Supervisor, Public Assistance

Responsibilities

Oversee client eligibility and case management for public assistance programs such as Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP), Medicaid, cash assistance, and emergency programs
Analyze and initiate policy development and procedures
Provide regular coaching, feedback, and support to employees
Oversee, refine, and ensure departmental processes and automated caseload administration occurs efficiently and effectively
Provide leadership and direction for Economic Assistance department employees to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements. Review and monitor employee work to ensure programs are administered accurately and timely
Collaborate with supervisory and management groups to develop workflows and agency procedures
Ensures compliance, integrity, and accuracy in the administration of federal, state, grant-funded, and county programs
Participate on committees, task forces, and special assignments to design internal and external policies and procedures
Lead committees and participates with community partners to establish work protocols
Collaborate with community partners to facilitate development and coordination of services and funding
Provide education to other departments and agencies on the impacts of legislative changes to programs and services
Conduct policy and procedure analysis and provide recommendations to redesign or implement programs
Represent Anoka County on state work groups and at community events

Required

Requires a bachelor's degree and three years (2,080 annual hours) of job-related experience determining eligibility for public assistance programs
In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis

Preferred

Three years or more years (2,080 annual hours) of experience working in a Minnesota county Economic Assistance Department in a leadership or supervisory capacity
Five or more years (2,080 annual hours) of experience working directly with public assistance programs
Bachelor's degree or higher in Behavioral Science, Human Services, Education, or related field
Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, mentor, and develop staff to achieve organizational goals
Strong knowledge of public assistance policies, procedures, and applicable state and federal regulations
Ability to interpret, apply, and communicate complex laws, rules, and written instructions effectively
Proven organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey complex information clearly and professionally
Proficiency in using technology and data systems to manage workflows and monitor program performance
Ability to foster collaboration and maintain effective working relationships with internal teams, external partners, and diverse populations
