IBM Workload Scheduled Consultant

Largeton Group is seeking an IBM Workload Scheduler Consultant with Mainframe Experience to design, build, and maintain job definitions and schedules. The role involves monitoring job streams, implementing automation, and ensuring compliance with governance and reporting standards.

Responsibilities

Design & Build: Develop and maintain job definitions, job streams, calendars, variable tables, prompts, and restart logic; enforce naming and versioning standards
Operate & Recover: Monitor schedules using Dynamic Workload Console (DWC); triage and resolve job failures, analyze return codes, apply preventive fixes, and maintain operational runbooks
Event-Driven Scheduling: Implement event-based triggers, manage dependencies, and perform what-if analyses for job streams
Automation & Integration: Automate deployments, checks, and reporting using IWS CLI/REST and scripting languages (Shell/Python/PowerShell); integrate with ServiceNow/Jira for change and incident management
Migrations/Upgrades: Plan and execute IWS upgrades, agent deployments, backups, disaster recovery testing, and rollback plans
Governance & Reporting: Generate weekly SLA, MTTR, and failure trend reports; ensure compliance with audit and security controls
Collaboration: Work with application, database, and infrastructure teams for onboarding and performance tuning; mentor junior team members and promote best practices

Required

8+ years hands-on experience with IBM Workload Scheduler/Automation (IWS/TWS) on distributed platforms and DWC
Strong skills in job/job stream design, calendars, dependencies, and recovery
Proficiency in scripting (Shell/Python/PowerShell), automation via CLI/REST, and Git
Solid understanding of Linux/Windows OS, networks, and service accounts
Experience with change management, production controls, and incident management
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or equivalent experience
Strong communication, stakeholder management, and documentation skills
Focus on automation, standardization, and measurable process improvements

Preferred

IBM Workload Automation certifications preferred
Experience with z/OS, scheduler databases (DB2/Oracle), LDAP/SSO, CI/CD integration
Knowledge of other schedulers (Stonebranch, JAMS, Control-M, Autosys) and data/cloud scheduling (ETL/ELT, Azure Data Factory, Databricks)
