Senior News Assistant, Newsletters
The New York Times is committed to independent journalism and seeks a news assistant for their Newsletters desk. The role involves supporting reporters and editors with various logistical and operational tasks, producing content for newsletters, and engaging with readers.

Responsibilities
Produce certain content for The Morning, including the daily Spelling Bee section, Today's number, and Sunday Debate
Produce the weekly News Quiz and assist with writing and editing quiz questions
Write Opinion bullets for daily newsletter, summarizing content from our Opinion columnists
Fact-check content daily for the newsletter
Monitor The Morning's public-facing email account and update the desk on reader reactions to the newsletter, and assist readers with technical issues or possible corrections
Create reader callout forms and mine reader responses for use in The Morning newsletter, other newsletters and on-site pieces
Internal document creation and maintenance, i.e. trackers, desk contact lists/whereabouts, Airtables, Google production calendars, etc
Ensure between editors, reporters, photographers and freelancers
Eagerly tackle new responsibilities as the need arises
Demonstrate support and understanding of our values of journalistic independence and exhibit a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world
Qualification
Required
1+ years of experience with Google Workspace
Experience in a role requiring operational skills
Experience in a fast-paced environment
Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem solving skills
Versatile skills in writing including strong grammar
Preferred
Excellent communication skills
A passion for learning about new tools and journalism formats
Ability to multitask and prioritize to meet deadlines
