Infection Prevention Specialist :: Titusville, FL
BuzzClan is seeking an Infection Prevention Specialist who will report to the Quality Manager. The role involves surveillance, analysis, and reporting of infectious diseases, as well as educating care partners and developing infection control policies to meet regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
Performs ongoing surveillance, data collection and reporting of infectious and communicable diseases, analyzes the data to identify trends, root causes and opportunities for intervention
Using industry and population best practices develops, implements, and continuously monitors system practices to prevent known and future infectious states
Serves as a subject matter expert in infection prevention and provides consultation, education and training to clinical and non-clinical care partners across all departments to promote a safe environment and reduce the risk of healthcare associated infections (HAI)
Compiles dashboard reports for Medical Staff Department, Nursing Department, and multidisciplinary department committee meetings
Participates in the development of policies and procedures to ensure rigorous infection control standards that meet regulatory and nationally organized agency recommendations and requirements
Enters data into State/National databases
Assesses the educational needs of all care partners and develops educational plans and curricula in response to identified organization needs, goals, and infectious/communicable disease trends
Conducts rounds to include: a. Infection prevention, i.e. transmission-based precautions protocols, PPE compliance, hand hygiene compliance, cleaning and disinfection b. Safety i.e. construction, water management c. Environmental – i.e. biohazardous waste, room pressures d. Interdisciplinary – i.e. invasive device management (usage and necessity)
Plans, develops, and implements quality process improvement methodology to improve clinical and process outcomes. Leads and participates in performance improvement initiatives related to infection control, including hand hygiene, device associated infections and surgical site infection prevention
Is responsible for annual reviews with updates to the Infection Control and Prevention Plan for PMC
Coordinates and facilitates the Infection Control and Prevention Committee. Prepares timely reports to external agencies as required
Investigates suspected infection outbreaks and leads containment and mitigation efforts
Participates in emergency preparedness and response efforts
Performs similar or related duties as assigned
Knows fire, disaster and safety procedures and regulations as it pertains to the work area
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree required
2-3 years of experience in a relevant position required
Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) required (MUST BE ON RESUME)
Preferred
Master's preferred
Majors preferred: Epidemiology, Nursing, Public Health, Clinical Laboratory or related healthcare field
Preferred to have a nurse with an active or inactive license but nursing license is not a hard requirement
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt preferred
