Civil Structural Engineer
BCP Engineers & Consultants is focused on civil structural design for Nuclear Safety-Related and Non-Safety-Related structures. The role involves leading technical activities, mentoring less experienced engineers, and resolving complex technical issues while coordinating with interdisciplinary stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Serves as subject matter expert in the civil structural design areas
Works on highly complex tasks in multiple and diverse areas and proposes innovative design solutions requiring a significant amount of independent judgment
Works on developing the technical expertise required to bring in advances technical capabilities in house as deemed beneficial and strategic for NuScale
Uses structural engineering tools and implements appropriate standards to design Nuclear Safety-Related and Non-Safety-Related structures including post-processing analytical results and designing structures for various material types (concrete, steel, etc)
Interfaces with Licensing in support of domestic and international regulatory efforts
Interacts with other disciplines and structural engineering consultants in an effort to allow effective coordination of design activities and resolution of technical problems
Provides guidance and mentoring to other staff members in support of the team’s technical activities
Develops and reviews requirements documents, methodology documents, design reports, and studies
Possess strong written and oral communication skills and routinely interacts with contractors and/or regulatory bodies
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
A minimum of a bachelor degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited school is required
Minimum of 12 years of full-time, highly relevant experience as a Structural Design Engineer is required
In-depth understanding of engineering concepts, principles, theories
Strong technical writing skills
Good communication, computer, presentation and interpersonal skills
Exceptional organization and time management skills
Ability to manage complex projects with multiple work phases
Design and analysis of structures, including concrete and steel
Use of design software and finite element method analyses
Use of ANSYS is required
Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810
Preferred
An advanced degree is preferred
A registered professional engineer license (P.E.) is strongly preferred
Additional experience in working with the following codes preferred: ASCE 43, ASCE 4, ACI 349 & 318, ASCE 7, IBC, and AISC N690, Steel Construction Manual and Seismic Design Manual
Computer programming skills (e.g. Matlab, or Python) is not required, but preferred
