Controls Engineer

Responsibilities
Design, program, and implement Kassow and ABB cobot applications for new and existing production processes
Lead cobot integration projects from concept through installation and handover to production
Develop and execute rollout plans for cobot systems, including timeline, resource planning, and documentation
Collaborate with Mechanical, and Process Engineers to ensure smooth integration of cobots into automation lines
Optimize cobot motion paths, cycle times, and process logic for maximum efficiency and uptime
Troubleshoot and modify cobot and robot-to-PLC communication programs to ensure smooth operation and data exchange
Train and mentor the technician team on cobot operation, programming, and basic troubleshooting
Document and standardize cobot programming templates, backup procedures, and version control methods
Support improvement projects by identifying opportunities to automate manual processes with cobot solutions
Assist with robot simulation, offline programming, and testing using ABB RobotStudio or Kassow interfaces
Stay up to date on emerging cobot technologies, programming tools, and software updates relevant to Kassow and ABB systems
Provide technical input and lessons learned during project reviews and future cobot expansion planning
Support maintenance teams in diagnosing and resolving equipment-related issues
Provide hands-on training and technical guidance to maintenance personnel on control systems and automation equipment
Troubleshoot and resolve complex programming issues in control systems and automation equipment. Identify and engage external expertise when necessary
Demonstrate strong presentation and communication skills, with the ability to deliver clear, professional daily report outs to senior-level and cross-functional teams
The Controls Engineering team participates in a structured on‑call rotation to ensure 24/7 support for production operations
Other duties may be assigned as needed
Qualification
Required
Bachelor Electrical Engineering is required
Advanced knowledge of PLC programming is expected, typically gained through a minimum of three years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing or automation environment
Three to five years of relevant experience and/or specialized training in industrial control systems, automation, robotics, or a related field is required
Experience in Kassow and ABB cobot integration and programming is plus
Strong skills in robot commissioning, motion optimization, and path programming
Proficiency in ABB RobotStudio and Kassow Cobot programming environment
Understanding of PLC-to-robot communication (e.g., Digital I/O, PROFINET, Ethernet/IP)
Experience creating training materials and rollout plans for production or maintenance teams
Excellent collaboration skills and the ability to work within cross functional project teams
Preferred
Knowledge of vision systems or peripheral equipment used with cobots
