Commissioning Engineer / Project Manager ( MEP) - Wayne, PA

Bala Consulting Engineers is a 200-person engineering firm headquartered just outside of Philadelphia in Wayne, PA. They are seeking a Commissioning Project Manager (CxPM) with expertise in mechanical and controls systems to manage commissioning projects and provide technical oversight for testing mechanical equipment and systems.

Responsibilities

Serve as a project manager on select projects in the Cx Group. Project types include data centers, new builds, renovations, fit-outs and infrastructure upgrades, LEED Cx, Energy Code Cx and Retro Cx
The CxPM role is client facing. The responsibilities include: reviewing RFP’s, attending pre-bid walkthroughs and writing proposals, test scripts, and reports. The role also includes planning of work, execution and day-to-day management of internal teams and clients
The CxPM will provide all management functions including scope responsibilities, client management, scheduling, and financials
Assist other CxPM’s across all locations of the enterprise
Develop a core group of assistant project managers eventually capable of performing independently on similar project types
As a CxPM based out of the Wayne, PA office, it is expected that the majority of time will be spent in the local area. Travel to other Bala offices is encouraged on an as-needed basis. National travel to project sites is expected and will occur infrequently on an as-needed basis based on the requirements of the project. This candidate must be willing to work various hours (days, nights, weekends etc.) to support project commissioning activities
Be a technical resource for the staff
Manage/schedule quality control reviews to reinforce technical lessons and company processes
Complete internal peer reviews and provide input in multi-discipline page turns, across all offices, to assist in the development of a comprehensive design
Manage/schedule document reviews prior to all major project deliverables
Review workforce projections and determine how it relates to staffing
Identify times and strategies to manipulate design schedules to work with staffing
Provide input on individual staff member performance, advancement, and potential
Participate in staff performance reviews when appropriate
Drive ownership, accountability and culture through the company
Interact with partners and executives on a regular basis to further the growth and quality agenda of the firm
Identify potential business opportunities
Work with the leadership team to develop fees on complex projects
Develop and maintain client relationships
Grow the volume and footprint of the office market sectors

Required

At least eight (8) years' experience in commissioning or adjacent field (construction, owner's representative, etc.)
Bachelor's degree in engineering or other relevant field
Experience managing projects and people
Strong interpersonal and team building skills
Strong technical writing skills
Knowledge of building codes
Knowledge of industry best practices and the latest technologies for mechanical / controls systems commissioning

Preferred

PE/CEM/CBCP/BCxP
Data center experience
Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems a plus
