Responsibilities
Contribute to architectural design and hands-on development of a proprietary subledger platform, influencing technical direction and implementation approach
Enhance and maintain internally developed financial systems to support changing operational and regulatory requirements
Support existing production systems while new solutions are being designed and deployed, ensuring continuity and performance
Design and deploy urgent fixes for critical system issues to minimize operational impact
Coordinate releases, patches, and deployments with technology and business stakeholders
Own the full technical lifecycle of financial systems, from concept through long-term maintenance
Monitor system health and performance, implementing improvements to increase reliability and efficiency
Develop automated controls to support compliance, audit readiness, and accurate financial reporting
Design, build, and maintain custom APIs and integrations between third-party platforms and internal financial systems
Create reliable data pipelines connecting bordereaux ingestion tools with internal subledger functionality, supporting premium, commission, loss, and reserve data
Develop and support EDI processes used for reporting to carrier and capacity partners
Implement monitoring, logging, and error-handling mechanisms to ensure integration stability
Oversee financial data throughout its lifecycle, ensuring appropriate governance, security, and usage
Build automated reconciliation routines to validate data consistency across systems
Define and implement data validation and quality control rules to reduce reporting errors
Develop ETL workflows to support operational finance and analytics needs
Investigate and resolve data flow or integrity issues across integrated platforms
Ensure seamless data movement between underwriting systems, subledger platforms, general ledger solutions, and reporting tools
Develop custom reporting, dashboards, and analytical outputs for finance and underwriting stakeholders
Support close processes (monthly, quarterly, annual) through automation and system optimization
Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and eliminate manual financial processes
Produce and maintain technical documentation for systems, integrations, and custom builds
Support internal and external audit activities by providing system documentation and data access
Participate in evaluation and implementation of new financial or operational technologies
Train and support business analysts and end users on internally developed financial tools
Qualification
Required
5–7 years of experience in financial systems engineering or software development, ideally within insurance or financial services
Proficiency in at least two programming languages (e.g., Python, C#, Java, JavaScript)
Strong experience building and supporting APIs and system integrations (REST, SOAP, webhooks)
Advanced SQL skills and experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL, or similar)
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices
Experience developing or supporting custom financial applications or ledger-related systems
Solid understanding of P&C insurance financial operations, including premium accounting, claims, and reserves
Experience with ETL frameworks and integration design patterns
Hands-on experience with Git and modern development standards
Preferred
Exposure to delegated authority, MGA, or program business models
Knowledge of insurance regulatory and statutory reporting requirements
Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP)
Familiarity with integration platforms (e.g., iPaaS solutions)
Experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite, SAP, or Oracle
Working knowledge of GAAP and statutory accounting
Agile/Scrum development experience
Familiarity with BI and visualization tools
Exposure to containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes)
