Senior Water/Wastewater Maintenance

This role is responsible for overseeing and participating in the maintenance, repair, and operation of the City's water and wastewater systems, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and safety protocols.

Responsibilities

Lead and supervise a team of water/wastewater crew members in daily operations
Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs on water and wastewater infrastructure, including pipelines, pumps, valves, and treatment facilities
Monitor system performance and identify areas for improvement or necessary repairs
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to water and wastewater management
Respond to emergency situations, such as leaks or system failures, and coordinate appropriate response actions
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, system performance, and regulatory compliance
Train and mentor junior crew members, providing guidance and support in technical tasks and safety procedures
Collaborate with other departments and agencies to ensure integrated and efficient service delivery
Participate in the development and implementation of operational policies and procedures

Required

High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training
Minimum of 5 years of experience in water/wastewater operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role
Strong knowledge of water distribution and wastewater collection systems, including maintenance and repair techniques
Familiarity with regulatory requirements and safety standards in water/wastewater management
Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively manage a team
Proficiency in using relevant tools, equipment, and software for system monitoring and maintenance
Ability to respond to emergency situations and work in various weather conditions
Possession of a valid Arizona Class B commercial driver's license with a clean driving record
Possession of minimum Collections and Distributions I and II certifications and the ability to obtain or have obtained III and IV certifications
In-depth understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes and technologies
Knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance requirements
Familiarity with safety protocols and best practices in water/wastewater management
Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment for system analysis and troubleshooting
Environmental consequences and constraints related to water/wastewater
Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation
Recent developments, current literature and information related to water/wastewater operations
Occupational hazards and standard safety precautions necessary in the work
Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations
