Responsibilities

Perform emergency and routine switching of both company and customer equipment, both overhead and underground, ranging from 120v to 345kv
Implement hold-off and hotline procedures to ensure safety in accordance with the Protective Card Procedures
Establish isolation zones for safety with System Dispatch Control and Distribution Dispatch for maintenance, construction, and emergency situations
Interpret operating instruction, switching diagrams, substation one-line diagrams, engineering orders, blueprints, and operating maps in both company and customer substations and associated field equipment
Perform phasing, testing, and protective grounding operations
Set regulation
Assess situations, isolate problem and determine appropriate resolutions, repair or temporary or permanent when possible or recommend crews and materials as needed
Assist police and fire departments by switching, isolating, and advising in emergency situations to ensure public safety
Determine cause of customer/system problems, repair, or recommend proper course of action needed to correct problem
Inspect system equipment, diagnose problems, fault locate, repair or replace malfunctioning or worn equipment, perform preventive maintenance
Install equipment to new constructions, energize and test circuits (i.e., metering equipment, voltage regulators, lights, etc.)
Maintain street lights, proper equipment and supplies for vehicles
Assist with disconnections and reconnections, collections, meter installation and load management equipment removal
Respond to engineering requests
Attend safety and training classes to ensure safe and reliable operations
Assist other groups/business units as needed on special assignments or situations
Responsible for accurate interpretation of data
Manage stray voltage issues, perform light forestry work, ensure contractor compliance
Solve radio and television interference problems, perform meter and service work
In summer, 30% of time spent on locate activity. Meter reading part of responsibilities

Required

The applicant must have completed a Federal or State formal training for a Journeyman Lineman with approve supporting documentation or have had experience as a qualified (max) Line Mechanic
Applicant must have a valid driver's license and meet the company's requirements for driving. The selected applicant must obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) within 90 days of entry into the job
The selected applicant must reside within 30 driving miles (Troubleshooters in areas with 24/7 coverage and all Electric Operations employees in the southeast Wisconsin areas, must reside within 40 driving miles) of their headquarters or, if applicable, their crossroads location. In addition, employees in Customer Operations headquartered at a location that has an associated service territory may also reside within the applicable service center territory. Such employees will be required to relocate to meet this residency requirement within 18 months from date of physical transfer
Testing requirements Construction and Skilled Trades (CAST) - Other level: Comprehension of pictured mechanical principles such as gears, levers, pulley systems, water flow, etc.; arithmetic skills in calculating distances shown in prints and drawings; and the ability to read and understand written material
