Property Accountant (Real Estate)
EqualAccess is partnering with a vertically integrated real estate organization that owns and manages a diverse portfolio of residential properties across New York City. The Property Accountant is responsible for the accurate recording, reconciliation, and reporting of financial activity for an assigned portfolio of residential properties, ensuring timely financial reporting and supporting audits and tax compliance.
Management Consulting
Responsibilities
Perform monthly close for assigned properties and prepare internal and external financial statements
Review daily banking activity for accuracy and update accounting records as needed
Analyze and reconcile general ledger accounts across the portfolio
Record monthly wires, debt service payments, and related journal entries
Track and record activity related to mortgage escrows and reserve accounts
Perform bank reconciliations, including tenant security deposit accounts
Complete month-end close processes and supporting schedules
Prepare year-end journal entries and compile audit and tax workpapers
Support property tax compliance matters, including annual filings and reporting requirements
Assist with ad-hoc accounting and finance projects as needed
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
5+ years of experience in property or real estate accounting
Yardi experience required
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines
Hands-on property accounting experience
Strong technical accounting skills
Comfort working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Preferred
Experience with tax credit or regulated residential properties
