Network and Communications Field Technician (Field Technician II)
Jones Group International, LLC is seeking a Network and Communications Field Technician (Field Technician II) to support the installation, maintenance, and deployment of network systems at client sites, including Department of Defense facilities. The role involves managing complex initiatives, interfacing with customers, and contributing to technical field operations.

Responsibilities
Structured Cabling Installation: Plan, install, terminate, and test CAT5e/CAT6 cabling systems for voice, data, and network connectivity in commercial, industrial, and government environments, including DoD bases. Ensure compliance with TIA/EIA standards and federal, state, and local regulations
Wi-Fi Network Deployments: Conduct site surveys to determine optimal access point placement, install and configure wireless access points, and validate coverage using survey tools, including in secure facilities
Network Equipment Setup: Install, configure, and troubleshoot switches, routers, patch panels, and related hardware, ensuring proper connectivity and cable management
Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Diagnose and resolve issues related to cabling, wireless connectivity, and network hardware. Perform scheduled maintenance and respond promptly to service calls
Documentation: Maintain accurate records of cable layouts, equipment configurations, test results, and as-built drawings for audits and future reference
Customer Interaction: Interface with customers onsite to understand requirements, provide updates, and deliver user training as needed, following secure site protocols
Project Coordination: Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other technicians to meet timelines and deliverables, adhering to quality standards and security procedures
Safety Compliance: Follow all company, industry, and government safety policies, including ladder safety, confined space entry, and proper use of PPE
Qualification
Required
2–4 years of hands-on experience in network cabling installation (CAT5e/CAT6)
Experience with Wi-Fi deployments, site surveys, access point installation, and performance testing
Ability to work at DoD and secure government facilities
Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance
Knowledge of network protocols, LAN/WAN topologies, and basic IP addressing
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, floor plans, and technical diagrams
Proficiency with cable testers, TDR, Fluke meters, spectrum analyzers, and wireless survey tools (e.g., Ekahau, NetAlly, AirMagnet, Wireshark)
Experience with network hardware installation and basic configuration (switches, routers, wireless access points—Cisco, Aruba, Ubiquiti, etc.)
Understanding of safety standards in cabling and electrical work
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work in tight or elevated spaces
Strong written and verbal communication skills for interaction with technical and non-technical stakeholders, including government and military personnel
Preferred
Certifications such as BICSI Installer or CompTIA Network+
Experience with fiber optic cabling installation and termination
Knowledge of PoE deployment and troubleshooting
Experience with network management and monitoring platforms
Strong organizational and project management skills
Proven teamwork and collaboration in fast-paced field environments
Adaptability to new technologies, evolving project requirements, and security procedures
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions and restricted-access areas
Flexible schedule with occasional evening or weekend work as needed
Familiarity with PPE and tools provided under DoD regulations
