The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. They are seeking a Senior Scientist who will serve as the Principal Investigator, responsible for conceiving and designing complex research projects, supervising projects, and developing new technologies and protocols.

Responsibilities
Lead Preclinical Limb-Salvage Research: Provide scientific oversight for a cutting-edge extracorporeal limb-salvage program, integrating expertise in ischemia/reperfusion injury, muscle physiology, vascular surgery concepts, and extracorporeal circuit technologies such as blood pumps
Shape Scientific Strategy and Program Growth: Direct experimental design and day-to-day scientific operations, collaborate with veterinary staff and the IACUC, and guide junior faculty and trainees to advance the program’s research aims
Demonstrate Leadership and Grants Management: Leverage proven experience in federal award management, program administration, and cross-disciplinary team leadership to ensure regulatory compliance and sustainable research progress, while strategically utilizing previous scientific discoveries and existing data to inform future grant opportunities and shape long-term research directions
Drive Scholarly Output and Mentorship: Maintain data integrity and lead analysis, while planning, writing, and publishing high-impact manuscripts; mentor residents, post-doctoral fellows, and early-career investigators to build future scientific capacity
Direct Supervisor: Direct authority to make decisions on the following: employee hiring, disciplinary action, starting salaries and merit increases; conduct employee performance evaluations and directs work activities
Qualification
Required
Doctoral Degree required
More than 10 years experience required
Knowledge of applicable highly complex scientific procedures and techniques
Excellent communication skills
Ability to troubleshoot technical procedures
Ability to work independently and supervise others
Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust Clearance
Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs
