Responsibilities
Design and build production-grade data products:
Explicit schemas and semantic definitions
Versioning and backward-compatibility strategies
Defined freshness and quality expectations
Implement quality enforcement as part of the platform:
Validation at ingestion and transformation layers
Clear ownership and visibility when data breaks
Blocking vs non-blocking failures based on consumer impact
Architect the platform for rapid growth:
Compute isolation and concurrency planning
Partitioning and layout strategies
Cost and performance optimization
Build and maintain core platform components:
Reusable ingestion and transformation patterns
CI/CD and testing standards for data workloads
Act as the architectural decision-maker while remaining an active contributor
Qualification
Required
Owning Databricks platforms in production at meaningful scale
Designing data quality systems beyond ad-hoc checks
Strong Azure experience (ADLS, IAM, security patterns)
Hands-on Spark development (internals a plus, not required)
Building platforms used by multiple teams with real dependencies
Comfort operating as both builder and overseer
