Director of Research
CEDIA is the association for smart home professionals, and they are seeking a Director of Research to establish a global research function. The role involves delivering market intelligence and insights to support CEDIA's strategy and enhance the value of research for its members and other stakeholders.

Responsibilities
Producing annual market sizing reports for the U.S., U.K., and regional markets, as well as quarterly sentiment and confidence indexes for integrators, channel suppliers, and design/build professionals
Conducting benchmarking studies covering operations, pricing, compensation, and skills, and perform topical deep dives on emerging trends such as aging in place, energy and wellness, AI in the home, and security
Generate consumer and design/build insights, developing both short and long form reports, including executive briefs, dashboards, and white papers, and creating data products such as interactive dashboards, datasets, and media toolkits for members
Contributing to thought leadership through by-lined articles and represent CEDIA in research presentations at conferences, panel sessions, and webinars to share findings and amplify impact
Set a multi-year research strategy aligned to organizational goals and member/customer needs
Build the annual study calendar with milestones and key deliverables
Define research frameworks, sampling/weighting plans, survey instruments, and analysis standards
Oversee all research projects end-to-end from brief and vendor selection to fieldwork, analysis, and publication
Ensure methodological consistency and year-over-year comparability across regions and audiences
Source, evaluate, and manage research vendors/panels; negotiate contracts, budgets, and SLAs
Maintain participant panels and incentive programs, monitor data quality and response health
Lead quantitative/qualitative analysis; translate findings into clear, decision-ready insights
Produce executive summaries, dashboards, white papers, and presentations for diverse audiences
Present findings at events/webinars; brief media and key stakeholders as needed
Develop sponsorship/monetization plans for research outputs while protecting member/customer value
Build strategic partnerships with academia, industry bodies, and key accounts to enhance data quality and reach
Oversee third party contractors as required
Own the research P&L: forecast, track, and optimize budgets
Collaborate with internal departments (Marketing, Education, Standards/Advocacy, Membership, and Business Development) to embed insights into programs, training, messaging, and go-to-market plans
Qualification
Required
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and present clear, actionable, decision-ready insights
Deep understanding of market sizing, benchmarking, trend analysis, and emerging technologies within professional channels
Ability to source, evaluate, and manage research vendors, negotiate contracts, and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for producing executive summaries, reports, dashboards, white papers, and delivering presentations to media, conferences, and webinars
Ability to analyse complex quantitative and qualitative data sets from multiple regions and sources, identify patterns, trends, and anomalies, and translate findings into actionable, decision-ready insights for internal and external stakeholders
Ability to manage research budgets, forecast P&L, and optimize resources effectively
Strong ability to manage multiple research initiatives simultaneously, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with organizational goals
Ability to work with multiple departments to embed research insights into programs, training, messaging, and go-to-market plans
Skilled in communicating technical and complex research findings in a clear, concise, and compelling manner to executives, industry professionals, media, and member organizations
Ability to identify new research opportunities, expand regional reach, and drive monetization/sponsorship strategies while maintaining member value
Highly detail-oriented, ensuring methodological consistency, data quality, and accuracy across all research studies, reports, and presentations
Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
7+ years of experience in market research role
Preferred
Experience in B2B tech/CE/channel preferred or related field
Experience working with multiple geographies and audiences to ensure methodological consistency and comparative insights across regions
Mastery of survey design, sampling/weighting, and quantitative analysis; qualitative methods a plus
Commercial acumen: sponsorship packaging, pricing, and stakeholder management
Knowledge of the smart home/custom install landscape (integrators, distributors, trade suppliers, design/build) strongly preferred
