Automation Engineer - Life Sciences

Responsibilities

Collaborate with senior engineers to execute design tasks and develop automation system deliverables
Design automation systems of basic complexity in compliance with codes and standards
Perform engineering calculations for control elements, instrumentation selection, and sizing
Develop technical documentation including narratives, reports, drawings, and diagrams
Utilize platforms such as Microsoft Office, BIM software, and vendor-specific automation tools
Conduct field investigations to integrate designs with existing systems and infrastructure
Coordinate with architects, engineers, designers, vendors, and construction trade partners
Support construction activities including RFIs, submittal reviews, punch lists, and progress reports
Participate in professional development and industry events
Mentor entry-level engineers and design staff
Lead small projects or manage defined scopes of work on larger projects

Required

Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited)
Minimum of 3 years of experience, preferably in a design firm setting

Preferred

Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam registration or completion
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft Office Suite
Experience with instrumentation and controls engineering calculations
Familiarity with control system schematics, panel fabrication drawings, and field wiring plans
Ability to read and interpret Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
Working knowledge of electrical codes, building codes, and industry standards
Strong coordination skills across disciplines and with external partners
Ability to perform design calculations under supervision of a Lead or Senior Engineer
