The City of Las Vegas is inviting applications for the position of Park Maintenance Field Supervisor. This role supervises and reviews the work of staff responsible for park maintenance, overseeing technical tasks and ensuring compliance with public landscape contracts.

Responsibilities

Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise and review the work of staff responsible for the installation, renovation, maintenance and repair of municipal landscaped grounds and associated structures including parks, recreation facilities, community centers, restrooms, sport fields, roadway medians, and trails
Acts as first line supervisor for designated staff within a department, including interviewing and selecting of job applicants, training, overseeing work, and establishing and evaluating appropriate performance standards in accordance with department objectives
Recommends and assists in the implementation of division goals, objectives, policies and procedures. Assists with the annual development and submission of business plan measures. Prepares and presents monthly performance statistics and reports. Recommends and implements approved policies and procedures
Establishes schedules and methods for providing park maintenance services; identifies resource needs; reviews needs with appropriate supervisory staff; implements recommendations
Ensures employees adhere to established work methods, techniques and schedules, and comply with applicable city and department policies, procedures, standards and specifications; reviews needs with appropriate management staff; allocates resources accordingly
Supervises and participates in the renovation and maintenance of landscaped grounds including planning, developing planting plans, planting, maintenance and removal of trees, shrubs and turf
Supervises and participates in the preparation, application and use of chemicals, fertilizers and pesticides
Supervises and participates in the construction and maintenance of park recreation facilities; ensures functional and safe facilities for the public
Supervises the maintenance of time, material and equipment use records
Ensures assigned employees adhere to safe work practices; trains employees in safe work practices
Prepares various specifications for projects as required; reads and interprets blueprints; meets with contractors to collect bids for park facility renovations, repairs and improvements
Inspects park facilities including community centers, sports fields, swimming pools and restrooms for maintenance and repair needs
Monitors and maintains appropriate levels of supplies, equipment and inventory to ensure efficient and effective operations. Participates in the procurement process, including researching materials, equipment and vendors, assisting with specifications and requisitioning materials as needed
Oversees and participates in the set up and removal of traffic warning devices and barricades for traffic control associated with landscape and irrigation maintenance or installation activities
Maintains a variety of automated and manual logs, records and files; performs a variety of record keeping, filing, indexing and other general clerical work

Required

Five years of increasingly responsible experience in the construction, maintenance and repair of municipal park grounds and facilities, including two years of lead or supervisory experience
Equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by specialized course work or training in grounds maintenance, building maintenance or a related field
Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license on the date of application, and maintenance thereafter
Possession and maintenance of a Work Zone Safety Certificate from the International Municipal Signal Association within one year of the date of appointment
Within 15 days of initial hire, provide documentation of completion within the last five years of an OSHA-30 course in construction industry safety and health hazard recognition and prevention, developed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration of the U.S. Department of Labor. Completion card must be continuously maintained while employed in this classification
