Senior Geotechnical Engineer
Risus Talent Partners is an ESOP company offering excellent work-life balance, and they are seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to replace a retiring engineer. This role involves leading geotechnical investigations, managing client relationships, and providing technical guidance to the team.
Responsibilities
Lead and perform geotechnical investigations and analyses including shallow and deep foundation design, slope stability, soil mechanics, settlement, and pavement design
Prepare, review, and seal technical proposals, cost estimates, specifications, and geotechnical reports
Review and approve daily Construction Materials Testing (CMT) field and laboratory reports
Provide senior-level technical guidance to project managers, junior staff, and field teams
Serve as primary client contact during design, pre-construction, and construction phases (including kick-off site visits and periodic oversight)
Collaborate closely with the CMT Manager (Hanover office) on testing scopes and quality control
Directly manage one mid-level geotechnical staff member
Qualification
Required
Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Maryland, Virginia, or Washington DC
10–15+ years of geotechnical engineering experience in the Mid-Atlantic region
Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (Master's degree preferred/strongly desired)
Demonstrated proficiency with gINT, OpenGround, Slope/W, and G-Stable
Strong working knowledge of construction materials testing procedures and daily report review
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Valid driver's license and ability to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs
Preferred
Existing client relationships in Maryland, Northern Virginia, or DC metro markets
Specific experience with deep foundation systems (drilled shafts, driven piles, micropiles)
Prior experience mentoring junior staff and managing small teams
