Responsibilities

Participates and assists in the field and bench repair and installation of electronic traffic control devices such as signals, vehicle detectors, and signal controllers
Participates in the modification of traffic signal control systems
Sets and adjusts signal timings and controller programs
Assists in trouble shooting, pre-wiring, testing, and installing traffic signal control cabinets and related equipment
Performs general maintenance and inspection of traffic signals and related equipment
Replaces hoods, lenses, and bulbs
Participates in the monitoring and analysis of data generated by traffic signal control computer systems and local intersection controllers
Answers maintenance and repair calls during regular working hours and on an emergency basis
Maintains the repair shop
Performs other related duties as required

Required

Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent
Two years' experience in electronics repair or the repair and maintenance of electronic traffic signal systems
Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a noncommercial, class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of appointment
Knowledge of the principles and practices of electronics repair or traffic signal equipment repair
Knowledge of solid state electronics
Knowledge of safety standards and procedures
Skill in the operation and care of electronic or traffic signal repair tools
Ability to repair traffic signal control systems, microprocessors, solid state devices, and related equipment
Ability to program traffic signal control systems and devices
Ability to operate electronic diagnostic equipment and test equipment
Ability to perform interconnect cabling and wiring
Ability to use personal computers and traffic signal control related software
Ability to recognize and differentiate colors
Ability to read and interpret blue prints and schematic diagrams
Ability to work at various heights
Ability to maintain effective working relationships
Knowledge of County and Departmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
Knowledge of traffic signal control maintenance, repair, modification, and installation principles, practices, and procedures
Knowledge of traffic control terminology
Knowledge of the principles and practices of railroad and fire/emergency preemption
Knowledge of telemetry and interconnect hardware
Knowledge of personal computers and traffic signal control related software
Skill in the repair, modification, installation, and maintenance of traffic signal systems and associated equipment
Skill in programming traffic signal control systems and devices
Skill in operating electronic diagnostic equipment and test equipment
Skill in performing interconnect cabling and wiring
Skill in using personal computers and traffic signal control related software
Proof of Licenses, Certifications and Education Applicants are required to submit proof of licenses, certifications and education beyond high school to meet the required of the position
Proof of Degree Equivalency Applicants who have obtained a degree from outside the United States of America are required to submit degree equivalence documentation from World Education Services, Inc. (www.WES.org)
