Responsibilities

Set the strategic direction for the opinion section in alignment with organizational mission and editorial priorities

Identify key news, political, and cultural issues requiring commentary and ensure timely, relevant coverage

Oversee opinion pieces from pitch through publication, refining arguments, structure, and clarity

Ensure opinion content is persuasive, coherent, and consistent with editorial standards

Manage columnists and contributors by assigning pieces, setting expectations, and enforcing deadlines

Provide editorial feedback and coaching to strengthen writing quality and argumentation

Partner with legal counsel and senior editors to manage legal, ethical, and reputational risk

Collaborate with newsroom, homepage, and audience teams to coordinate publication and distribution
