Responsibilities
Maintain and enhance backend services built with Node.js, NestJS, and TypeScript
Design, maintain, and optimize GraphQL APIs supporting production applications
Support and maintain integrations with Strapi (headless CMS) and Magento
Provide day-to-day operational oversight of backend systems during standard business hours
Monitor and maintain containerized workloads running in Kubernetes
Perform routine operational tasks, including:
Monitoring pods, services, and deployments
Managing CI/CD pipelines and runners
Certificate rotation, secrets management, and scheduled maintenance
Troubleshoot production issues and perform root-cause analysis
Implement well-scoped fixes and incremental improvements with an emphasis on stability
Collaborate with a DevOps engineer on infrastructure decisions, escalations, and simplification efforts
Participate in initiatives to reduce operational complexity and infrastructure overhead
Maintain technical documentation and operational runbooks
Qualification
Required
5+ years of professional backend software engineering experience
Strong experience with JavaScript and TypeScript
Production experience with Node.js (NestJS preferred)
Hands-on experience with GraphQL in production environments
Experience maintaining and supporting live production systems
Familiarity with Kubernetes, containers, and deployment workflows
Experience working with CI/CD pipelines
Experience with authentication and identity systems (Authentik or similar)
Strong troubleshooting skills and a methodical, operational mindset
Preferred
Experience in roles combining backend development and platform operations
Familiarity with on-prem or hybrid infrastructure
Experience simplifying or right-sizing infrastructure stacks
Experience supporting CMS or commerce platforms (Strapi, Magento)
Background in SaaS, education technology, or mission-driven organizations
