Under the direction of an ITS3 (G23) within the Data Center Services (DCS) Linux Unit, the Information Technology Specialist 2 will support x86 Linux Server environments at centralized data center locations and at field offices throughout NYS
As a Linux Server Administrator you will be required to install, configure, and maintain Linux operating systems for several state agencies. This role includes server-side functions and troubleshooting activities that support business-critical applications and activity. Linux administrators manage user access and monitoring system stability and security through daily access and use. Troubleshoot issues by examining server log data and reviewing network statistics, as well as installing server-side agent software, such as Commvault, Zabbix, Splunk, Stealth, VMware Tools, etc
Linux Management of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Server versions 8 and 9 involves configuration of network and storage settings. Candidate will be required to work with the enterprise server application and/or database team(s) to assist in installation and configuration of their software
Linux systems and servers may require a high level of risk assessment and customer support. Because Linux is an open-source operating system, administrators generally communicate and work with other developers to develop and implement systems extensions. This position will require the candidate to work closely with the Chief Information Security Office (CISO) to identify and address vulnerabilities within a server
Linux administrators also perform regular maintenance and troubleshooting on the server-side. This aspect of the role requires Linux administrators to review and report error logs and work on solutions. Often, Linux administrators must work directly with the system source code to make the necessary changes to ensure reliable performance and then integrate all amendments into the system as a whole
Manage and process requests, incidents, problem, and change requests via the Service Now\ITSM system. Responsibilities include completing work associated with request tasks, submitting change requests for scheduled off-hours tasks, and resolving incidents assigned to DCS LINUX. Provide detailed updates in work notes in accordance with incident severity and service level objectives
