Application Developer I-II
The Michigan Supreme Court's Judicial Information Services (JIS) is seeking an Application Developer I-II to assist in designing, documenting, developing, and testing features for case management systems used across Michigan's trial courts. The role involves collaborating with analysts and developers to create software solutions that meet business requirements and maintain system integrity.

Responsibilities
Collaborate with analysts, developers, and designers in conceptualizing and developing new software programs and applications
Translate business requirements into structured, maintainable designs that meet the product requirements
Designs and builds product deliverables according to specifications, escalates technical design or specification issues to business analyst/project manager and application development director, and works within a given time frame to complete coding
Design and specify test procedures including unit, system, and integration testing
Design system/program test data, debug programs using appropriate system tools and ensure system/program results are accurate to meet system/program specifications
Ensure integrity of data, code and configuration through use of revision control, backup, documentation and defined release procedures
Formulate plans outlining steps required to develop an application using structured analysis and design
Develop logical and physical database models designed to meet system and business requirements. May implement database models on relational database management systems
Follows industry best practices and software development life cycle methodologies
Qualification
Required
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology or a related field or college level coursework or equivalent combination of education/experience and experience in software development
1 year of analyzing, designing, coding, testing, and documenting production systems in the IBM iSeries (AS400) environment
1 year of software development with COBOL, RPG, Synon, Synon/2, COOL:2E or similar code generation tools
IBM iSeries (AS400) commands and control language
Software development life cycle methodologies and best practices
Understanding of the methodologies for the technology utilized in product development
IT architecture and technical standards
Knowledge of application server operating systems
Logical and physical database models and ability to program relational database management systems
Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
Facilitate working meetings, elicit and solicit information, and absorb the information being communicated; facilitate a shared understanding of the problem, possible solutions, and scope of the project in its entirety; facilitate solutions to technical challenges among multiple teams when they involve negotiation between multiple business and technical stakeholders
Evaluate multiple options before facilitating the solution to a problem
Apply critical thinking skills to determine the appropriateness of requests, with periodic reviews of business procedures to clarify or change a business process. Use the knowledge gained in the daily operational procedures as input to business process and procedure documentation
Work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines
