The Purchasing Agent is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, buying, and coordinating the delivery of products and services to ensure efficient and economical operations within the company.

Responsibilities

Identify and qualify vendors using CSQP and Guidance Manual along with Supplier Qualification Forms when required

Work in a collaborative and positive manner with departments requisitioning products and services to ensure the real need for these products and services, consistent with the best quality and terms available

Work with vendors to find better solutions to meet stated needs, at best cost and terms

Ensure that all appropriate documentation is prepared and proper approvals received before funds are allocated. This documentation includes, but not limited to: Requisitions, Purchase Orders, Supplier Qualification Forms and Acknowledgements

Obtain quotes for products and services, negotiate OEM and Distributor pricing, terms and delivery when appropriate

Schedule shipping and delivery with trucking firms, negotiate freight discounts, using the best hours for our products

Notify suppliers of any non-conforming materials or issues reconciling documents such as AR’s and RGA’s as needed with the supplier

Evaluate suppliers at least once a year, including supplier quality audits and site visits as needed

Identify and eliminate potential safety hazards and issues, in areas of direct responsibility

Ensure training is up to date and Buyer possesses the needed skills to perform the job through ETN review

Work with supervisors and employees on a daily basis to solve problems and create opportunities for success

Code invoices and/or purchase orders to ensure the expenses are allocated to the proper department

Required

Bachelor's Degree in related field is preferred. Post-secondary training plus appropriate experience may be acceptable

1-3 years of related experience. Stone industry experience preferred

Must be skilled in the art of negotiation

Must have above average verbal and written skills

Must also have proficient skills in use of various computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel Spreadsheet, PowerPoint, Microsoft outlook and JD Edwards

Must know AFE, cost and purchasing systems

Must also have understanding of supply management, logistics and financial systems

Should also have good working knowledge of Business Law and Legal Systems

Should be familiar with quality and production related work instructions and lean manufacturing concepts
