Fleet Service Superintendent

NEOGOV is seeking a Fleet Service Superintendent for the City of Madison, a leader in public sector fleet management. Responsibilities

Develop and manage the programs and operations of Fleet Service
Administer, maintain, inspect, repair, replace, and dispose of the centralized municipal automotive fleet (to include a wide variety of on and off-road vehicles, and special purpose equipment)
Develop and maintain a cost-effective preventive maintenance plan, and over-see its implementation through subordinate supervisors
Oversee the maintenance and repair of fleet vehicles at satellite user locations
Participate in various City staff teams, relative to both motor equipment planning and utilization, and more generalized City management matters
Collaborate with the Public Works Team on issues of mutual interest
Provide media and legislative liaison for Fleet Service. Represent Fleet Service in a variety of contexts
Evaluate automotive equipment needs in consultation with user departments
Plan for and determine the cost-effective service and replacement of fleet equipment
Advise city officials on a variety of automotive equipment considerations
Prioritize and expedite crucial cost-effective repairs
Develop and maintain Fleet Service policies and procedures
Prepare detailed truck, automotive, and specialized equipment specifications
Maintain close communication and coordination with user agencies to maximize service delivery
Participate in related program planning and problem resolution
Develop and maintain effective service and vehicle/equipment operational cost analysis information and recordkeeping systems
Develop and administer capital and operating budgets for Fleet Services
Prepare and present a variety of operational and budgetary reports and recommendations
Oversee cost-effective fleet management system(s) relative to work orders, automotive parts, supplies and fuel
Manage Fleet Service supervisory, skilled, semi-skilled and administrative staff
Serve as Appointing Authority for Fleet Service
Hire, train, motivate, supervise, evaluate and discipline staff
Respond to employee grievances
Maintain applicable occupational health and safety standards
Participate in labor relations matters, including updates to employee handbooks
Perform related work as required

Required

Five (5) years of responsible supervisory experience overseeing public works or motor vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair activities; two (2) years of which should have been in a managerial capacity including significant long-term planning, budgetary analysis, policy development, and equipment acquisition responsibilities; AND
Bachelor's (or higher level) degree in Business Administration, Management, Public Administration, or a related field of study
Seven (7) years of responsible supervisory experience overseeing public works activities; two (2) years of which should have been in a managerial capacity including significant long-term planning, budgetary analysis, policy development, and equipment acquisition responsibilities; AND
Vocational or technical school degree related to public works
Ability to meet the transportation requirements of this position
The employee will be expected to attend meetings and provide presentations outside the normal work schedule, including evenings and weekends
