Senior Engineering Technician (Central Records) - Office of the City Engineer

The City of Phoenix is responsible for implementing a significant Capital Improvement Program, and they are seeking a Senior Engineering Technician for their Central Records section. Responsibilities

Reviewing construction plans, paving plans, storm drain, row, drainage plans, floodplain reports, as-builts, and light rail plans
Interpreting and analyzing engineering and construction drawings, symbols, and terminology
Interpreting other capital improvement project (CIP) documents
Working directly with project managers, procurement staff, internal customers seeking documents
Assisting members of the public with public records requests in printed or digital format
Collaborate to train new Engineering Technicians and temporary staff to complete the work processes in Central Records
Support the Chief Engineering Technician in the streamlining of these work processes

Required

Two years of experience in paraprofessional engineering work
Ability to multitask between several duties and responsibilities
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
Ability to read and comprehend simple specifications, civil engineering plans and drawings
Ability to engage as a team player in a customer service driven environment with strict deadlines
Ability to produce documents using proper sentence structure, punctuation, grammar, and spelling
Knowledge of paraprofessional engineering principles
Proficiency with using Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, etc.)

Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record

Preferred

One year of experience in interpreting civil engineering plans, as-builts, storm drain or Right-of-Way plans
One year of experience working with electronic maps such as LandBase, EZ Maps or any mapping software
One year of experience providing customer service in person, over the phone, or via email while succeeding in a team environment with strict deadlines
Experience contributing to the training of Engineering Technicians, administrative and/or customer service staff
Experience with MS Outlook, Word, SharePoint, and Excel spreadsheets and databases or a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system
Experience successfully communicating with Project Managers, Engineering Technicians, citizens, customers, and supervisors in a production-focused team environment
Experience conducting technical research using multiple resources
