Assistive Technology Coordinator
University of Delaware is seeking an Assistive Technology Coordinator to coordinate alternative media production and provide instruction and technical assistance regarding assistive and instructional computer technologies for university students and employees with disabilities. The role involves developing training resources, collaborating with faculty, and ensuring compliance with digital accessibility guidelines.

Responsibilities
Develops and provides face-to-face training and resources for students and employees with disabilities on the use of assistive computer technologies
Provides technical assistance, consultation and training for university faculty, staff and supervisors on the use of assistive computer technologies and instructional computer technology
Develops and maintains an institutional process for conversion of print materials to alternative formats for students and employees with disabilities
Facilitates the procurement of alternate media from external textbook providers and community agencies
Collaborates with faculty and supervisors to facilitate the adoption of accessible textbooks, training manuals, multimedia, and online educational materials
Researches and evaluates innovative methods and trends in technological accessibility solutions for people with disabilities, as well as emerging assistive and instructional computer technologies
Documents and maintains appropriate records of verbal and written communication as it pertains to alternative media and assistive technology provision for students and employees with disabilities
Participates on divisional and University-wide committees as requested
Assists the Assistive Technology Manager in developing strategies, partnerships and initiatives to further the mission of the Office of Disability Support Services to maximize campus access for all persons with disabilities
Remain up-to-date on digital accessibility guidelines, technical standards and relevant case law, including but not limited to WCAG 2.1
Provides direct support to the Test Accommodation Center (TAC) for all Assistive Technology and alternative format testing needs
Performs other job-related duties as assigned, including broad collaboration with campus partners
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree with three years' experience working with assistive technology for students, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Familiarity with strategies and experience working with people with disabilities, and facilitating accommodations in complex, multi-level environments
Familiarity with state and national standards and guidelines which apply to equal access to technology and the provision of academic materials in alternate format for students and staff with disabilities
Experience with the use of assistive computer technologies for blind, low vision, deaf and hard of hearing, physically disabled, and learning-disabled students
Experience using assistive computer technology and web based instructional resources for teaching and learning
Clear knowledge and understanding of the application of Section 504 and the ADA and ability to recognize legal risk associated with disability and accommodation issues
Highly developed written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate and interact well with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds
Ability to handle multiple assignments concurrently and re-prioritize; ability to successfully adapt to rapid change; ability to work collaboratively and to foster effective relationships
Understanding of Windows and Macintosh operating systems and cross platform issues of application, and ability to use advanced techniques in spreadsheet, database, and/or presentation software
Experience working with individuals with disabilities in higher education
Preferred
Degree in special education, psychology, communicative disorders, or other related field preferred
