Assistant City Administrator

The International City/County Management Association (ICMA) is seeking an Assistant City Administrator for the Mayor’s Office. This role involves assisting with policy implementation, managing city operations, and participating in budget management and strategic initiatives.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Assist in managing City operations and programs
Coordinate and respond to constituent requests and inquiries
Oversee City communications, including press releases, website content, and public materials
Prepare reports, correspondence, and speeches for internal and public use
Support Department Heads to ensure effective service delivery
Assist with budget preparation and administration
Attend and support City Council and committee meetings, including evening meetings
Represent the City at community and professional events
Participate in strategic planning and special projects

Required

Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Communications, Business Administration, Political Science, or related field
Five (5) to seven (7) years of municipal or public administration experience
Experience working with boards, commissions, and community organizations
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
Knowledge of municipal government operations and public administration
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing
Ability to analyze complex issues and make sound recommendations
Experience with budgeting, finance, and human resources in the public sector
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills
Commitment to ethical leadership and public service

Preferred

Master's degree in Public Administration, Communications, Business Administration, Political Science, or related field
Experience with labor relations and personnel management
