Responsibilities
Design and build scalable data pipelines and backend systems that enable deep insights into customer and user behavior
Own ingestion, transformation, and storage processes across batch and real-time data workflows
Establish and enforce data standards across all product lines, including schemas, models, and metadata
Improve reliability of existing systems through testing, documentation, and thoughtful system design
Implement orchestration, automation, and deployment workflows using infrastructure-as-code and modern data tooling
Monitor, debug, and optimize backend systems and data pipelines for performance and scalability
Partner closely with Product, Engineering, and Analytics teams to unify data models and ensure consistency across systems
Collaborate on tracking services, SDKs, and instrumentation that power analytics and reporting
Act as a technical thought partner, helping stakeholders understand tradeoffs and system-level implications
Serve as the first dedicated backend engineer for Data & Analytics, helping define technical direction and best practices
Build systems and processes that can scale as the team and data needs grow
Take full ownership of the lifecycle of systems you build—from design and implementation to monitoring and iteration
Qualification
Required
5+ years of experience working in fast-paced, startup-like environments
3–5 years of experience with at least one modern database and query language (e.g., Postgres, MySQL, MongoDB, DynamoDB)
3–5 years of experience in one or more modern programming languages (e.g., JavaScript, Python, Ruby, Rust, Go)
Strong experience with Docker and containerized applications
Comfort working across infrastructure, pipelines, and analytics—you're willing to wear multiple hats
A strong systems mindset with the ability to move between deep technical execution and high-level architecture
Excellent problem-solving skills and comfort operating independently
Preferred
Experience supporting BI and data science teams with reliable, well-modeled datasets
Experience building internal data platforms or centralized data lakes
Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or equivalents
Distributed systems knowledge, including experience within the Apache ecosystem and debugging performance issues at scale
