Principal Mechanical Engineer, Control Actuation Systems

They are seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer in Control Actuation Systems to provide mechanical engineering support for the development, build, and verification of control actuation systems, working autonomously and leveraging expert knowledge in the field.

Responsibilities
P4 – At this grade level, you will be expected to work autonomously, have expert level knowledge within the control mechanism development domain, and assist in developing strategic vision for functional and organizational strategies of the PCAS organization, beyond assigned program work
The PCAS organization provides ample opportunities for hands-on hardware work. PCAS mechanical engineers are exposed to a variety of lab activities including engineering builds, hardware integration, hardware tuning, and hardware verification
The PCAS organization provides a strong technical learning environment with a dedicated control system technology pyramid comprised of engineering fellows. PCAS mechanical engineers are provided the opportunity for direct access to these subject matter experts, fostering accelerated technical growth
Qualification
Required
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations
A minimum of 8 years of experience in mechanical engineering design or 5 years related experience with an advance degree
Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
DoD Clearance: Secret
Preferred
Experience with Systems or Mechanical Engineering of servo controls
Experience with development of CAS requirements, CAS architecture, requirements risk, requirements verification and validation, system performance & function, safety and environmental compliance
Experience in working with control actuation systems that employ permanent magnet brush and brush less DC motor technology
Experience with feedback control systems, including sizing, testing and integration, design-for-manufacturing, kinematic and dynamic simulation and analysis
Proficient in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5
Proven ability to deconstruct higher level tasks into discrete lower-level work packages and tasks
Proficient in generating free body diagrams
Proficient in Engineering processes and procedures
Moderate 3D modeling skills with a prominent commercial software package
Experience with Pro/Engineer/CREO 3D modeling and mechanical drawing generation
Experience using Matlab, Simulink, and dSpace
Proven design and manufacturing knowledge in machined parts, injection molded parts, hobbing, broaching, sheet metal fabrication, BLDC motors, wire harnesses/flex harnesses and related components, corrosion resistant steels and aluminum alloys
