Assistant Chief of Operations - Fire Dept
NEOGOV is seeking an Assistant Chief of Operations for the Fire Department in Highland Beach, FL. The role involves providing technical, administrative, and supervisory support for fire and EMS operations, including training and risk management, under the direction of the Fire Chief.

Responsibilities
Directs, supervises, coordinates, and evaluates the activities of fire department personnel
May act as the Fire Chief when the Fire Chief is absent
Participates in all fire department training activities to maintain an acceptable level of proficiency from fire department staff
Responds to emergency incidents and assumes the role of safety officer unless otherwise directed by the incident commander
Prepares and submits reports of Fire/EMS training hours and continuing education training units for fire and EMS recertification; reviews all incident and injury reports as part of a risk management program
Coordinates with the fire marshal to prepare pre-incident planning and inspections of residential and commercial structures for hazards in accordance with fire prevention codes and ordinances
Coordinates with the Medical Director in establishing emergency medical standing orders and protocols under the direction of the Fire Chief
Maintains current knowledge of applicable laws/standards/regulations related to fire protection and EMS delivery; maintains awareness of new procedures, technologies, trends, and advances in the profession; maintains professional affiliations; attends workshops and training sessions as appropriate
Conducts inspections of personnel, personal protective equipment, vehicles, and other department assets to ensure safety and operational readiness
Prepares and presents fire prevention and public safety education programs
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Must be a State of Florida Certified Firefighter and perform the illustrated duties as outlined in NFPA 1001 for Firefighter I and II and NFPA 1021 Fire Officer I
Must be a State of Florida certified Paramedic and perform the duties and responsibilities as outlined in Florida State Statutes and Florida Administrative Code
Knowledge and skills in the operation and maintenance of various types of apparatus and equipment used in firefighting/EMS activities
Knowledge of street locations, geography, and types of construction within the Town of Highland Beach
Ability to lead effectively and maintain discipline
Knowledge of laws, regulations, and local ordinances that regulate the delivery of emergency services
Knowledge of the local hospital system and their specialties
Knowledge of the function and implementation of the National Incident Management System
Knowledge of the function and implementation of the mass causality incident management system
Knowledge of department mutual aid procedures, medical protocols, SOPs, SOGs, and other agreement
Knowledge of adult instructional methods and techniques for public education
Knowledge of the function and implementation of an occupational health and wellness program
Knowledge of the function and implementation of an infection control program
Knowledge of the function and implementation of a department risk management program
Knowledge of the function and implementation of a training, education, and professional development program
Ability to assist the fire chief in the development and implementation of departmental policy and procedures
Knowledge of modern fire suppression principles, practices, and procedures
Knowledge of EMS delivery principles, practices, and procedures
Knowledge of hose streams and water flow calculations
Knowledge and skills in the operation and maintenance of fire suppression apparatus and equipment
Knowledge and skills in the operation and maintenance of EMS equipment
Computer knowledge and skills - email, internet research, spreadsheets, and word processing skills
Bachelor degree in fire science, public administration, or related field
Must possess and maintain State of Florida certification as a Firefighter and Paramedic
Supplemented by four (4) years of previous experience as a company officer
State of Florida certification as a Fire Officer I or greater
State of Florida certification as a Fire Service Instructor II or greater
Completed ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 training in the National Incident Management System curriculum
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida 'E' driver's license with no more than six (6) points within a three (3) year period
Preferred
Possess State of Florida Fire Inspector Certification
State of Florida certification as a Fire Officer II or greater
State of Florida certification as a Fire Service Instructor III or greater
