Responsibilities

Duties across all job classes include fire suppression, fire prevention, and hazardous fuel reduction. Work is arduous in nature, requiring the use of hand and power tools. Other duties include, but are not limited to, preparing and maintaining fire gear and equipment, station maintenance, and other duties as assigned
Applicants must be willing and able to perform strenuous outdoor work, typically in challenging, dynamic conditions
This position may be filled at either a 1, 2, or 3 job class level, depending on the applicant’s training and /or experience. Starting salary will be determined by the level at which the position is hired

Required

Must be eighteen years of age
Six months of trainee or entry-level wildland fire fighting or forestry field experience for Wildland Fire & Resource Technician 2
Red Card qualification under the National Incident Qualification System for Wildland Fire & Resource Technician 2
Twelve months of wildland fire fighting or forestry field experience, of which at least six months was at the developmental level for Wildland Fire & Resource Technician 3
Red Card qualification under the National Incident Qualification System for Wildland Fire & Resource Technician 3
Completed coursework from an accredited college or vocational-technical school in forestry, fire science, or a closely related field may substitute for six months of general field experience for Wildland Fire & Resource Technician 2 and 3
Applicant must pass the Work Capacity Test at the 'Arduous' level
Applicant must possess an Alaska driver's license
Most positions require National Incident Qualification System certifications
Applicant must provide a current or most recent Red Card (within the last four years)
Applicant must provide a driver's license at the time of the interview
Applicant must provide two most recent performance evaluations or letters of reference if evaluations are unavailable
