The primary objective of this role is to implement nursing care plans and ensure the well-being of veterans in stable conditions.

Responsibilities
Implement selective aspects of the nursing care plan, i.e., comfort, hygiene, safety measures, nutrition, etc., under progressively more generalized supervision from a Registered Nurse or Practical Nurse of a higher level
Observe patients for changes in physical and/or mental status or behavior and report significant changes
Obtain specimens for laboratory testing as assigned
Take vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure
Administer medication and treatments in accordance with policies and procedures
Transcribe physicians' orders and record medication and the patient's condition on patient's charts and other records
Gather information about the patient's past and current physical and mental status
May administer oral and parenteral medication as prescribed by the physician and document procedure
Apply dressings, ointments, and other treatments as ordered and document the procedure
Assist physicians with routine examinations and treatments
Bathe, feed, and make patients comfortable
Perform individual and group health teaching as assigned
Qualification
Required
Possession of a current Louisiana Practical Nurse license, a temporary permit, or a multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state
