Lead Mechanical Engineer, Heat Exchanger Engineer
Averro is a Veteran-Owned organization seeking a Nuclear Lead Heat Exchanger Engineer who will act as the design lead for heat exchangers and contribute to the design of primary heat transport systems for nuclear reactors. The role involves project oversight, supplier management, and ensuring adherence to design codes while developing technical requirements and managing design activities.

Responsibilities
Develop and manage technical requirements for the Intermediate Heat Exchanger. This responsibility will include preparing or reviewing design specification and ensuring the correct application of ASME code rules to the design and fabrication of the component
Responsible for project oversight, supplier management and lead design and analysis reviews
Perform technical vendor oversight of intermediate heat exchanger designer
Review and perform owners’ acceptance of intermediate heat exchanger vendor deliverables
Support planning efforts and maintain schedule adherence for design activities within a system, as well as their integration with an overall plant design delivery schedule
Identify and ensure effective application of correct design codes into the design of plant systems such as ASME, ANS, ASTM, IEEE, NFPA, etc
Analyze and allocate regulatory criteria and standards to complex mechanical and process system design
Interface with the design team to create and manage drawing packages of system designs, including but not limited to Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), 3D models, and system interface drawings
Support design reviews as plant system and subsystem designs are established and refined
Develop testing requirements, test specifications, and provide technical oversight for testing
Work with other lead engineers on physical and fluid interface requirements and design
Coordinating with other teams regarding the results of analyses, such as thermal, seismic, structural, pipe stress, heat transfer, and other analyses performed by others and integrate the results into plant design and operational decisions
Establish and maintain system requirements and design basis documents for the primary heat transport system
Generate design package for systems, sub-systems, and equipment designs including coordination of calculations, design reports, mechanical drawings, and engineering design specifications
Qualification
Required
Degree and 10-15+ years direct experience. Advanced degrees can be accepted in lieu of experience
10 years of heat exchanger experience
Background working with high-performance systems or equipment design
Experience applying ASME Section III Code to the design of tube and shell heat exchangers
Experience with tube-and-shell heat exchanger design and applying TEMA standards, preferably with experience with heat exchangers that provide a portion of a reactor primary coolant pressure boundary
Demonstrated experience in the design of complex mechanical systems, structures and equipment
Experience working to quality standards on design activities, such as ASME NQA-1
