Senior Specialist, Mechanical Engineer

Responsibilities

Conceptualize, design, integrate, and qualify mechanical enclosures and structures in the avionics realm
Work closely with electrical and RF engineers to meet functional performance requirements for Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) in design activities
Implement design practices that support DO-160 qualification for environmental and EMI/EMC
Model physical geometry in SolidWorks and create supporting drawings
Apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing per ASME Y14.5
Support generation of design documents such as hardware requirements and hardware change impact analysis
Utilize analysis tools for thermal, structural, and other relevant simulations
Support production and sustainment of products in factory environment, working with operations and manufacturing to improve yield
Effectively communicate across multiple technical teams
Communicate directly with customers, in person or virtually, to understand their problems and formulate actionable solutions
Other duties as assigned

Required

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience
Minimum 7 years' experience with mechanical hardware design for electronics or avionics
Proficiency in SolidWorks
Design experience with DO-160 and/or MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-461
Proven experience implementing good practices for tolerancing, producibility, manufacturability, and design to cost

Preferred

Working knowledge of mechanical simulation and analysis tools such as ANSYS Mechanical, Icepak, and Fluent
Experience with and an understanding of aerospace systems, especially in the development of integrated hardware/software products
Practical understanding of the complexities of RF design, especially in L-band frequency range
Excellent people skills, with experience leading and collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team environment
Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, & presentation)
Knowledge of DO-178 and DO-254 certification requirements
Experience effectively supporting production and test of products in a different geographic location
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple programs and responsibilities simultaneously
Ability to operate and identify appropriate path forward with minimal oversight
