Employee Relations Compliance Investigator, Office of Employee Relations - 25518
NYC Public Schools is seeking an Employee Relations Compliance Investigator to support compliance requirements for investigative and operational teams within the Division of Human Resources. The role focuses on ensuring timely background investigations, managing accommodations, and supporting various employee relations activities to maintain efficient staffing in schools.

Responsibilities
Ensures the background investigation processes are effectively and efficiently closed in order to fully staff schools by the necessary deadlines
Assists with the background investigation process, including reviewing nominations, case reviews, communications and ongoing security clearance issues
Performs related tasks for background investigations - including initial interviews with applicants, reference checks and employment verifications, in order to expedite shorter investigations
Documents and records all communication with applicants and all related matters concerning character and fitness for the position
Ensures that employees, volunteers and vendors have been timely and accurately nominated in NYCPS systems and tracks any nominations that may have technical issues
Supports investigative activities, including case distribution and assignments, case follow-up and maintenance of all related files for applicants
Ensures that the office is meeting goals set under for class reduction size regulation
Handles emergency and special investigation matters, as needed
Supports the Arrest and Reassignment Team, particularly at peak periods, to ensure faster processing of employees who are returning to schools. Such support may include processing visitors, reviewing arrests and reassignments, follow-up with employees and other assigned tasks
Ensures compliance with all policies, procedures, regulations and standards of practice
Provides compliance support for reasonable accommodations to ensure that accommodations are timely provided, particularly for new hires
Works closely with school-based and district-based staff to ensure that schools have needed support for accommodations, particularly for new hires
Works strategically with the various teams on workload and distribution of available staff to ensure regular coverage and efficient processing, with a focus on NYCPS employees
Supports the monitoring and tracking of discipline stemming from investigations in a case tracking system to ensure a more timely return of NYCPS employees to school-based roles
Provides reports for case review as needed
Prepares written and statistical reports for the Executive Director of Employee Relations
Utilizes various computer systems to assist in the processing of applicants, cases and data
Works with confidential, high-level matters
Supports other NYCPS-related work for processing applicants
Supports other Employee Relations initiatives and projects assigned
Works off-site, as needed. throughout the five boroughs to support any related-NYCPS events
Varies work schedule to meet the needs of various stakeholders and provide coverage of events
Attends citywide meetings as a representative of the NYCPS
Qualification
Required
A four- year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and four years of satisfactory full-time experience in an industrial or governmental agency in the field of investigation, auditing, law enforcement, security, inspections, or in a major operational area of the agency in which the appointment is to be made; or
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college; or
Education and/or experience equivalent to '1' or '2' above
Demonstrated legal experience
In addition to meeting the minimum requirements, individuals must have two additional years of the experience described in '1' above
Preferred
Knowledge of NYCPS, City and State rules and regulations
Strong customer service focus and ability to collaborate across multiple offices and agencies
Strong investigative experience, including interview and case management skills
Strong human resources or employee relations experience, including accommodations
Strong database and spreadsheet experience, particularly with Microsoft Office 365 applications
Able to work flexible hours
Able to multitask among various responsibilities and teams
Able to occasionally travel throughout the five boroughs
Excellent organizational skills
Ability to make decisions and recommendations
Experience managing highly confidential information of a sensitive nature
