Responsibilities

This position is responsible for directing the daily activities related to execution of the Nondestructive Testing Engineering and Operations teams at Blue Origin's Huntsville Manufacturing and Testing site
This position is responsible for the performance of NDT personnel in supporting all current and future program needs across all business units with activities in the Huntsville area
This position monitors current and future potential NDT activity and actively assists or provides direction to assign the correct resources to complete the task(s)
Manage budget planning and execution of annual operating budgets for the Huntsville site
Manage and grow the Non-Destructive Testing team, including developing resource plans and profiles, authorizing job descriptions, conducting interviews, making hiring recommendations, assigning tasks, and conducting performance reviews and developing team members
Set priorities and completion milestones for projects and activities
Manage the Engineering tasks for specialized non-destructive testing of production hardware in order to guarantee achievement of on time delivery, cost and quality
Setup new production areas, including layouts, tooling and equipment validation
Assist in the transition from development to production, including qualification schedules and first articles
Develop and maintain NDT group training, qualification and certifications
Work with and collaborate with NDT groups throughout Blue Origin manufacturing sites
Perform second party verifications and hardware inspections to engineering models, drawings, specifications, and written procedures
Assure continued training and skills development to attract, develop, and retain top tier people
Forecast and developing recovery plans for constraints critical to vehicle delivery schedule
Identify and implement inspection reduction and automation projects for rate production efficiency
Other duties as assigned or otherwise beneficial to fulfilling the mission and vision

Required

Knowledge in at least three of the following NDT methods: Radiography (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Penetrant Inspection (PT), Eddy Current (ET), or Shearography (ST)
Knowledge and experience of support function roles within Value Stream production structure
Hands-on working experience in a manufacturing environment and a corresponding understanding of manufacturing processes
Knowledge of robotic inspection and data acquisition
Demonstrated proficiency with a variety of NDT inspection techniques and equipment, along with a working knowledge of blueprint reading and interpretation
Knowledge of industry NDT standards (ex. NAS410, NASA-STD-5009, ASTM E164, ASTM 1742, ASTM 1417, AMS-STD-2154, etc...)
Experience managing a budget to meet organizational financial goals
The ideal candidate would have/maintain multiple ASNT Level 3 certifications; in at least one volumetric and one surface inspection method
Experience with AS9100 certification (or similar)
Strong leadership, problem solving, and written/verbal communication skills
Ability to analyze, evaluate and develop solutions to a variety of situations (technical, organizational, etc.)
Experience with MS Office products
Candidates should possess the skills to coach/mentor individuals to work effectively under time and budget constraints
Exceptional organizational and analytical skills and a proven ability to drive complex projects with minimal oversight

Preferred

Minimum of a bachelor's degree in an engineering or science discipline and at least 10 years of related experience in Quality/Manufacturing/NDT processes (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)
Experience with auditing practices and Process Certification
Broad/deep scheduling and planning skillset
Experience with large project management
Experience with project planning and Master Schedule integration
Proficiency with resource loaded schedules using Primavera (P6), Open Plan, MS Project, or other software
Experienced in handling large aerospace components
Experienced in a team-based Lean Manufacturing environment
Experience with the manufacturing/inspection of Welding and Additive Manufacturing
