Senior Consulting Resource Manager

Responsibilities
Contribute to a safe and healthy work environment by actively participating, taking responsibility, and following established procedures and policies
Align consultant capacity and deployment with practice strategy, revenue targets, and growth priorities for the Americas region
Drive client success by staffing projects with the right mix of skills, seniority, and availability while maintaining healthy utilization and avoiding burnout
Build and continuously improve a disciplined sales and operations planning (S&OP) and workforce planning process that provides clear, reliable forward views of demand, capacity, and risks
Own regional consulting capacity planning, using sales pipeline, backlog, and financial data to forecast demand across 20+ active and upcoming projects
Lead the recurring S&OP / resource review cadence with practice leaders to reconcile demand, capacity, and priorities, including scenario and what‑if analysis
Recommend hiring, contracting, and backfill decisions based on utilization, skill gaps, and strategic growth plans
Respond to staffing requests from business development leaders and project sponsors, ensuring needs are clearly defined and actionable before assignment
Allocate full‑time, part‑time, and contract consultants to projects, balancing senior/junior mix, travel, and billable vs. non‑billable time to meet utilization and margin targets
Ensure major projects (including those >1M) are staffed with qualified personnel in key roles prior to or immediately following approval, escalating gaps or conflicts as needed
Monitor portfolio‑level risks related to capacity, skills, travel load, and project overlaps; escalate issues and partner with Consulting Operations on mitigation strategies
Continuously evaluate and improve processes for staffing, forecasting, and early risk identification, with a focus on simplicity, speed, and data‑driven decisions
Leverage and help evolve tooling (e.g., resource management systems, Power BI dashboards) to provide clear visibility to leaders and project managers
Partner with the leader responsible for consultant development to align staffing decisions with individual development plans and career paths
Provide utilization, exposure, and skill‑mix insights to support promotion, hiring, and training decisions
Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, using data and judgment to influence trade‑offs between revenue, utilization, travel, and work‑life balance
Prepare, review, and edit professional and confidential materials including presentations, reports, resourcing analyses, and executive briefing documents
Coordinate and distribute key communications on behalf of the leadership team; support scheduling and logistics for critical internal and client meetings
Manage special projects from initiation through completion as assigned, maintaining a strong focus on outcomes and stakeholder alignment
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in business, operations, human resources, engineering, or a related field required; MBA or relevant master's degree preferred
7–10+ years of progressive experience in resource management, workforce planning, operations, or project management, ideally within a consulting or professional services environment
Demonstrated experience managing resource planning for 50+ professionals across multiple concurrent projects, including large engagements (1M+ in revenue)
Hands‑on experience leading or significantly contributing to Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) or similar demand/capacity planning processes
Strong proficiency with Excel for modeling, scenario analysis, and reporting
Experience with Power BI (or similar BI tools) for utilization, capacity, and financial dashboards
Proficiency with Microsoft Teams and SharePoint for collaboration and document management
Workforce planning principles, resource allocation strategies, and capacity forecasting in a project‑based environment
Consulting business models and project lifecycle fundamentals, including how utilization, billable hours, and pricing drive financial outcomes
Financial concepts such as utilization targets, margin, bill rates, and revenue forecasting
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, including the ability to interpret complex data and make clear staffing recommendations
Excellent organizational skills; able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast‑moving, matrixed environment
High‑caliber written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to influence senior leaders and explain trade‑offs clearly
Process design and optimization capabilities, with experience simplifying and improving S&OP or resource management processes
Influence and collaborate effectively across functions and levels, with particular strength in 'managing up' to senior leaders
Anticipate staffing needs, surface risks early, and proactively address gaps through creative solutions
Model and evaluate multiple what‑if scenarios, especially around sales pipeline shifts and large deal wins
Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information about people and clients with discretion
Ability to work in a general office or home office environment
Ability to handle extended periods of computer‑based work and telephone/video conferencing
Ability to lift 25–50 lbs (e.g., luggage) as needed
Domestic travel required, estimated up to 10%, including occasional client visits and in‑person leadership meetings
Preferred
MBA or relevant master's degree
Prior exposure to safety, operational risk, or industrial/technical consulting environments is a plus
Certifications in project management (PMP), workforce planning, or analytics tools are considered a plus
Experience with professional services automation (PSA), ERP, or resource management tools strongly preferred
