Intern, Media Relations (Hybrid Schedule)
Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) is focused on supporting and moving science forward in various ways, including media production. As the Intern, Media Relations, you will support key Institute-wide priorities and gain experience in communication, writing, and research.

Responsibilities
Routinely monitor a wide range of national and local news sources for updates on federal policy, US science, higher education, AI, and other topics relevant to HHMI’s interests
Support the Media Relations Manager in assembling and distributing daily news briefing to HHMI leadership team
Supporting and tracking media mentions
Maintaining and curating lists of key stakeholders in HHMI’s media monitoring platforms
Shadow the Media Relations Manager and learn how to respond to incoming media requests
Learn how to translate and express ideas for communication with various audiences
Collaborate with HHMI’s Leadership Communications Manager and Government Relations Manager on other communications projects
Qualification
Required
Current enrollment in a bachelor's degree program majoring in communications, English, journalism, social sciences, political science, or a related area of study is required
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong grasp of media literacy
Strong initiative, self-motivation, and capacity for creative problem-solving
Ability to conduct academic research and navigate databases
Strong organizational skills, teamwork skills, and time management skills
Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy
Preferred
Any experience with SharePoint or Cision would be a plus
