Supervisor Phlebotomy - UNCH Laboratory Eastowne

Responsibilities
Supervises all phlebotomy activities to include scheduling, training, evaluation and documentation of staff performance
Hiring and training of new phlebotomists
Ensures specimen integrity by enforcing the laboratory’s procedures for collection, handling and processing
Maintains, implements, adheres to and enforces departmental operating policies and procedures to include all programs, quality control, quality assurance and safety
Provides orientation and training for staff to ensure comprehension of company policies and procedures
Performs blood collection (venipuncture, fingerstick)
Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following department procedures
Process samples for appropriate storage and transport to the laboratory
Enters patient demographic and insurance information into laboratory information system
Enters laboratory orders into laboratory information system
Makes phlebotomy rounds as scheduled
Follows patient Identification process
Answers questions and resolves problems pertaining to test requisitions, specimen requirements, test additions, priority changes (from routine to STAT and vice versa) and patient results utilizing the Lab information system or other data retrieval system
Supervises the recording of all statistical information
Ensures that all specimen collections and processing are performed in compliance with UMHC guidelines
Tracks collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection; maintaining daily tallies of collections performed
Continue to monitor and improve upon internal processes within phlebotomy department
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
High School degree or equivalent
Successful completion of Phlebotomist training with certification as a Phlebotomist required
Five (5) years of relevant experience performing phlebotomy functions in a medical setting
Ability to use a computer and type
Preferred
Prior management experience preferred
