Engineering Manager
The Princeton Review is a leading tutoring, test prep, and college admission services company. They are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a team in developing innovative learning and tutoring products while balancing technical leadership and team management responsibilities.
Responsibilities
Contribute hands-on to code, architecture, and technical design while leading the team (approximate 50/50 IC/management split)
Drive improvements to engineering practices in areas such as developer efficiency, CI/CD, testing strategies, quality assurance, or AI tool adoption
Build and develop a high-performing team of 3-6 engineers through effective coaching, feedback, and career development
Foster a culture of psychological safety, collaboration, and continuous learning
Partner with Product and Design to translate business goals into clear technical plans and ensure consistent execution
Communicate effectively across technical and non-technical audiences, ensuring alignment and managing dependencies
Drive measurable improvements in team velocity and delivery quality
Qualification
Required
8+ years of professional software engineering experience with at least 3+ years of people management experience leading engineering teams
Strong hands-on experience with C# and .NET technologies, with the ability to contribute meaningfully to code and technical design
Strong hands-on experience with database design and SQL
Demonstrated experience driving process improvements in areas such as CI/CD, testing practices, quality assurance, or adoption of new development tools and technologies
Ability to balance strategic thinking with tactical execution, able to zoom out to see the big picture while also diving into technical details when needed
Track record of improving team velocity and delivery quality through systematic identification and resolution of bottlenecks
Experience coaching engineers at various skill levels and helping them grow their technical and professional capabilities
Ability to communicate with clarity and empathy, adapting style to audience and building trust across diverse stakeholders
Demonstrated sound judgment in balancing tradeoffs between scope, quality, speed, and long-term technical health
Model collaborative, inclusive leadership that creates psychological safety and empowers team members to do their best work
Take ownership and accountability for both individual and team outcomes, addressing challenges proactively and with integrity
Preferred
React experience is a plus
MSSQL experience is a plus
