Law Student Legal Intern - Missouri State Public Defender System
The Missouri State Public Defender (MSPD) is dedicated to providing high-quality legal representation to individuals who cannot afford an attorney in criminal cases. This law student internship offers practical experience in criminal defense, including observing courtroom proceedings and assisting attorneys across various offices in Missouri.
Responsibilities
Assist with client and witness interviews
Observe preliminary hearings, trials, motions, and other aspects of litigation
Conduct legal research and draft motions or memoranda
Serve subpoenas and perform related support tasks
Provide general assistance to attorneys as needed
Qualification
Required
Currently enrolled as a 1L or 2L law student in an accredited law school
Preferred
Demonstrated interest in criminal law or public defense
Strong legal research and writing skills
Excellent analytical and critical thinking abilities
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Proficiency with legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis) and Microsoft Office Suite
