Responsibilities

Build the Function: Establish the Procurement Department with clear processes, governance, and reporting structures
Strategic Procurement: Oversee $5.8B in spend, executing sourcing initiatives and supplier negotiations that deliver significant cost efficiencies
Technology & Systems: Implement procurement technology platforms (e-sourcing, CLM, analytics) integrated with Welltower’s finance and operations systems
Organizational Leadership: Recruit, structure, and mentor a high-performing procurement team
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Operators, Finance, and Development to align procurement with enterprise growth
Culture & Change: Model Welltower’s ethos of agility, resilience, fiduciary duty, and shared sacrifice while driving adoption of new tools and processes
Category Management: Develop category strategies across major spend areas (construction, FF&E, IT, food & beverage, healthcare supplies, etc.) with tailored sourcing and supplier strategies
Supplier Relationship Management (SRM): Build long-term partnerships with key vendors, measuring performance through scorecards, KPIs, and innovation initiatives
Risk Management: Establish risk frameworks addressing supply chain continuity, inflation/price volatility, ESG compliance, and geopolitical disruptions
ESG & Sustainability: Embed ESG principles into procurement strategy, including supplier diversity, sustainable sourcing, and carbon footprint reduction
Data & Analytics: Create visibility into spend patterns through dashboards and analytics, enabling predictive and proactive decision-making
Contract Governance: Standardize and enforce contract lifecycle management (CLM) processes to reduce legal and financial exposure
Change Leadership: Drive adoption of new procurement systems and processes across a decentralized enterprise; educate stakeholders on procurement’s strategic value
Benchmarking & Continuous Improvement: Track performance against industry benchmarks and implement continuous cost/value improvements

Required

15–20 years in Procurement, Strategic Sourcing, or Supply Chain
Large-scale, multi-unit industries such as hospitality, healthcare/senior living, and multifamily
Proven track record managing >$1B+ in spend and delivering measurable cost savings
Building or transforming procurement functions, ideally centralizing from fragmented systems
Exposure to procurement technology platforms (e.g., Coupa, Ariba, Jaggaer)
Global procurement best practices, category management, e-sourcing, and supplier diversity
Strong financial acumen (P&L impact, working capital optimization, TCO analysis)
Experience negotiating high-value, complex contracts with Fortune 500 suppliers
REIT or asset-heavy industries, where procurement ties directly to asset performance
