Structural Engineer II

Responsibilities

Works with the Telecom Products Group, Sabre Site Solutions group, Small Cell Products group and others to create and implement new innovative products, improve and standardize products, and reduce costs
Interpret customer design specifications and other information received to determine appropriate project specifications and assure compliance throughout development cycle
Applies engineering principles and manufacturing knowledge to design small cell poles, concealment structures and sheet metal enclosures for wireless telecom applications
Develops detailed, structurally sound, thermally optimized, and visually refined production-ready product designs while incorporating FEA and other analytical tools for validation and optimization as required for performance and reliability
Delivers fully manufacturable designs and drawings, considering cost, production feasibility, labor efficiency, shipping constraints, and dimensional accuracy
Serves as a technical resource, supporting peer development and actively contributing to RCCA (Root Cause and Corrective Action) and continuous improvement initiatives
Monitors design and build cycles, ensuring alignment with project timelines and deliverables
Estimates quantities and cost of materials, equipment and/or labor to determine project feasibility
Assists vendors during first article builds to assure accuracy, proficiency and on-time delivery to customers
Interfaces with customers as needed to communicate product knowledge, design limitations, quality processes, and configuration options
Communicates real time updates to Sr Engineer, VP Engineering Solutions, and other departments as needed
Collaborates with internal cross-functional teams to assess make vs buy decisions, evaluate and select vendors, select appropriate vendors for parts and kits, standardize technical portion of vendor audits, develop relationships with vendors to understand capabilities, and ensure designs are not limited to a single source product or vendor
Assists Operations, Manufacturing and Shipping teams to design jigs, fixtures and processes for manufacturing and packaging among all Telecom product groups as needed
Recommends/implements design changes for reduction in production cycle times, optimal cost efficiency, universal component use and ease of assembly
Support development and implementation of manufacturing processes and procedures to improve efficiency, reduce costs and enhance product quality
Identify internal process improvement opportunities and work with cross-functional teams to develop and implement solutions
Coordinates testing required by customers and/or industry for product approvals and work with internal teams to develop test procedures and design fixtures for testing
Research new materials and applicability for use in current and future designs
Demonstrates technical product knowledge, design configurations, concepts and limitations and quality processes
Acquires knowledge and assure s adherence to all Sabre procedures and policy for engineering, production, tracking and follow-up
Travels with overnight stays to customer and vendor locations as needed
Report for work on time and fulfill your shift responsibilities as planned
Complete all responsibilities during your assigned shift as outlined in the schedule

Required

B.S. in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or closely related field
3+ years of mechanical design experience
Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology
Knowledge and proficient use of Solidworks
Proficiency in creating drawings for manufacturability
Knowledge of welding and annotating welds in drawings
Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in sheet metal cabinet construction
Knowledge of manufacturing processes, tooling, and assembly
Knowledge and proficient use of Microsoft Office applications
Professional and effective English communication skills
Must work well in a fast-paced R&D team environment
Must be coachable and flexible to meet the demands of the telecom industry
Self-starter; can be depended on to complete tasks under minimal supervision
Must have excellent organizational skills, follow-up, follow-through, and strong attention to detail
Must have a current, valid driver's license and meet Sabre's vehicle insurability requirements
Demonstrated ability to work with frequent interruptions in workflow and constantly changing priorities
Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time
Must be able to perform physical activities that require use of fingers, hands and arms
Position requires manual dexterity, arm-hand steadiness and a safety-minded individual
Must have the ability to concentrate on tasks for long periods of time

Preferred

2+ years of sheet metal design, tubular steel weldment design and manufacturing experience
Knowledge of tubular steel and pole construction
Knowledge of manufacturing processes, tooling, and assembly is preferred
Experience with PDM and document control
Telecom experience is a plus, especially the wireless industry
