Mechanical Design Engineer

ABB is a global market leader in high-power, high-performance motors and drives, and they are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to contribute to the design and development of Medium Voltage drive cabinets. Responsibilities

Create 3D CAD models and detailed engineering drawings for inverter cabinets, and mechanical parts
Develop sheet metal, plastic, and machined components with a focus on manufacturability and cost efficiency
Ensure designs meet structural, thermal, and environmental requirements
Coordinate with suppliers and manufacturing teams to validate feasibility and optimize production processes
Support cross-functional teams during prototype builds and product testing
Perform tolerance analysis, clearance distance and thermal simulations for drives components
Participate in design reviews, failure mode analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives
Maintain BOMs, design specifications, and revision control in PLM systems

Required

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering required
Minimum 5 years of experience with Medium Voltage equipment or similar industry
Strong solid modeling experience required
Experience with sheet metal parts, insulation material and related components
Familiarity with UL and ANSI standards for cabinets and clearance requirements for electrical components
Travel up to 10% required
Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US

Preferred

Thermal analysis and cooling test experience is a plus
Proficiency in ProE/Creo and PTC Windchill within a product development environment preferred
