Responsibilities
Transcribes or edits medical dictation for physicians and other healthcare professionals using correct medical terminology, spelling and punctuation
Analyzes medical records for documentation deficiencies/inaccuracies, including imaging reports
Releases protected health information to a variety of requestors
Abstracts and compiles data for quality measures, risk management etc
Completes birth registration according to guidelines set forth from the Minnesota Department of Vital Statistics
Assists utilization review in admission authorization/certification of hospital services
Extracts data from the electronic record system for reporting purposes including quality measures, registries and statistical reports
Performs various clerical and administrative functions as requested by Nursing, Medical Staff and other departments
Qualification
Required
thorough knowledge of anatomy, medical terminology, medical procedures, medications, and laboratory test information
knowledge of medical records procedures and practices
competency with transcribing equipment and software
good attention to detail; strives for accuracy
ability to work independently
high degree of self motivation
ability to work in teams with other departments
Preferred
medical secretary program, experience preferred
